Day-By-Day Breakdown

  • Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp - Start the trek at Londorossi Gate (2,360m) and hike through the lush rainforest, gradually ascending to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m) for overnight camping.
  • Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp - Continue the ascent through the rainforest, eventually reaching the heath and moorland zone. Trek to Shira 1 Camp (3,500m), where you'll be treated to stunning views of the Shira Plateau.
  • Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Moir Camp - Hike across the Shira Plateau, experiencing a change in landscape as you enter the alpine desert zone. Reach Moir Camp (4,200m), nestled beneath the Lent Hills.
  • Day 4: Moir Camp to Buffalo Camp - Trek across the Lent Hills and traverse the high-altitude desert terrain. Ascend to Buffalo Camp (4,020m), surrounded by unique flora and breathtaking vistas.
  • Day 5: Buffalo Camp to Third Cave Camp - Continue the journey along the northern slopes of Kilimanjaro, descending into the Great Barranco Valley. Reach Third Cave Camp (3,870m) for overnight camping.
  • Day 6: Third Cave Camp to School Hut - Ascend through the alpine desert and rocky terrain towards the School Hut (4,800m), situated just below the summit of Kilimanjaro.
  • Day 7: School Hut to Uhuru Peak and descent to Mweka Camp - Start the summit attempt in the early hours, reaching the highest point of Africa, Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for well-deserved rest.
  • Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate - Final day of the trek, descending through the rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m). Receive certificates of achievement and celebrate the successful completion of the Northern Circuit Route.
